RE: First (annual?) B Out West Social - PIZZA for anyone else?

My boondocking days are over for this trip. I stayed in a campground in Red Canyon in Utah one night, and was awakened at 5 am by the low battery warning beep. (Actually, the CO detector.) I hadn't used hardly any power that night, just the light for a short time, so the battery must be bad again. It was 29 degrees outside and the furnace wouldn't go on, even on propane, so I had to start the engine for heat. I was on the road by 5:30 am that day!
Since then, I've spent two nights in Las Vegas at Sam's Town, and one night in Laughlin. Now I'm practically spitting distance from my new house and will be going there tomorrow to see the progress. Only 3-1/2 weeks more to live in the MUTT!
Safe travels to those of you still on the road, and I hope to see most of you next April in LA!

RE: First (annual?) B Out West Social - PIZZA for anyone else?

It was a fantastic rally.
Julie, thanks so much for coming up with the place and doing so much work!
Tim & Sandy, thanks for all your advice on the wiper blades. I bought them at Checkers in Moab and you were right, Tim, they installed them for me for free! They work great and I can finally see out the passenger side.
Avis, thank you so much for the caffeine boost every morning. It was a great jumpstart to the mornings, and tasted great!
David (Davydd), thanks for mapping out my route for me. I made it to Torrey today and will start down Hwy. 12 tomorrow morning.
And thanks to all the rest of you who made the rally such a fun time!

RE: First (annual?) B Out West Social - PIZZA for anyone else?

I'm on the road and closing in on Moab. I left my daughter's house in Bonney Lake, WA yesterday and spent last night at a Wal-Mart "campground." Tonight I'm at a real CG in Twin Falls, ID so I can charge all my electronics and get free WiFi and cable TV.
I had planned to spend tomorrow night in Salt Lake City, but found out I'm only 220 miles from there, so may head south instead. Regardless, I should be in Moab Wednesday. Hope some of you are there, too!

RE: RV.net 6th Annual Class B Rally. Voting Results Are In!

Now that I'm going to be moving to AZ, MO is about as far east as I'm able to go. I'm sure hoping the Moab (or somewhere else in the west) becomes an annual event.

Thanks, Bob. I'm reserved for Thursday night, but may get there on Wednesday. That should be even less of a problem!
Safe travels, everyone!

RE: First (annual?) B Out West Social - PIZZA for anyone else?

I'm planning on leaving the Seattle area on Sunday or Monday, the 28th or 29th, and taking 3-4 days to make my way to Moab. It's all uncharted territory for me, so wanted to give myself enough time to stop when the mood strikes. If I get there a day early, I'm assuming there won't be a problem with arriving early snce it's mid-week. Think that's safe, Julie?
See y'all in two weeks!

I'm doing essentially the same plan as DandieDinmont. I'm staying with my daughter in Bonney Lake, WA now and have never been in OR, so want to see the coast on my way to Moab. All this info is very helpful. Thanks!

RE: MPG vs Speed

This topic brings up something I've been wondering about for some time. I've been told by a couple people (one a professional trucker) that diesel engines get their optimal MPG at 55-60 and going slower than that will not help. Anyone have any definitive information about that? And if it's true, is there an optimal speed/mpg factor for gasoline engines? I've been wondering about this for months and I could get a good night's sleep if I find out!

RE: First (annual?) B Out West Social - PIZZA for anyone else?

My plans are in limbo again. I was going to head to Tucson as my new home is supposed to close late Oct. - early Nov. However, my home sale in MN just fell through, so if it doesn't sell in time for me to get the cash by the time I close in AZ, I could head off in any direction.
Life is a mystery and I'm no Miss Marple!

RE: First (annual?) B Out West Social - PIZZA for anyone else?

I agree with Julie. The original rules, as presented by the Snatcho King (aka Burchbark, aka Jack), were that each person wrote down five numbers from one to however many participants there were, then the numbers were drawn from a hat and anyone who had the number drawn would take a gift from the table. This would continue until the gifts were all taken, then the game would continue with people taking gifts from others until all numbers were drawn.
This way, several people could be taking gifts on the same number drawn. It made it interesting and fun, as opposed to drawing a name, in which case, the person who's name was drawn first was done for the night and the last name drawn had their choice of any gift in the house. As Julie said, that's just a gift exchange.
I've played by the original rules at four rallies and loved it, but wasn't at B5, so I can't say that wasn't fun, too. Just wanted to give my input. My humble opinion only, no offense meant to anyone else.

RE: First (annual?) B Out West Social - PIZZA for anyone else?

I WILL be signing up for the dinner, but life has been pretty hectic, what with packing up and selling my house in MN, driving to WA, and helping my daughter and family get settled out here. I'll try to get on the phone and register in the next few days.
I'll be staying around WA and OR until I leave for Moab because my mail is being delivered here. Can't wait to see you all!

At the Minnesota State Fair, they sell Alligator on a Stick. Bet you can guess what I'm going to say it tastes like...yep, that popular barnyard fowl!

Ok, I'm all signed up for the 19th to the 24th. I hope to be coming from AZ and if so, maybe Judy, Jack, Julie, and Sandy will let me tag along. If I'm coming from MN, guess I'm on my own!
Thanks, Larry, for all your work on this; looking forward to seeing you soon!

Marty does this mean your sold your place in Minnesota?Anne,
No, it hasn't sold, but I'm going anyway and leaving the sale up to the realtor. It's either gutsy or stupid...we'll know by Utah time.

One female human, one female dog, and one male dog. Pacer, the Border Collie in my signature picture, will be with us in spirit.
Since I'll be full-timing between homes by then, all my belongings including dog costumes will be in storage. I'll try to find something as I pack the final boxes over the next two weeks.

RE: BEE Social in Niobrara, NE NE

Just got home and what a drive it was! It rained very hard about 90% of the time and drizzled the other 10%. The lightning show was incredible! All the way from Yankton to Sioux Falls there was constant lightning that was a little too close for comfort, and I actually saw one bolt that hit the ground across a field about 1/4 mile from me. There was a huge fireball where it hit the ground...don't know if it hit a power line or if they just do that when they touch ground. Anyway, since I made it through safely, I'm glad I got to see it. Awesome sight!
I echo everyone else's thanks to Gary, Judy and Jack for the planning and to everyone that helped out while there to make it a very successful outing.
Hope those of you that haven't checked in yet are safe and dry.

RE: BEE Social in Niobrara, NE NE

David,
I'm also starting out early tomorrow. Maybe we'll see each other on the road! Are you going I-35 to I-90, or is that too far back for you to come? I'm about 5 miles east of where I-35 splits into 35E and 35W, so it's a no-brainer for me. Not packed, just now draining my water tank to rinse out and refill, and so I better get to my chores!
See you tomorrow!

As Judy said, bring your own meat, beverages, plates, and utensils as well as a dish to share. That can be anything from potato salad to potato chips, baked beans to green bean casserole, or an appetizer to dessert. Nothing is furnished except the fire.
